5 Tips for the Perfect Post Pregnancy Skin Care Routine

After delivery, you may expect to bask in that post pregnancy glow, but your skin may have other ideas!

During our everyday lives, we have many habits that affect the way our skin looks, whether it's going outside into the polluted air or sitting in an office and sweating during a hot summer day. Hormones can also have an impact on how our skin looks, and there have been many links shown between hormones and acne, and a combination of both will usually give you the worst breakouts. There are many solutions, however, and tips that can help you keep your skin looking healthy, no matter the situation!

Once your little one arrives, your body goes through a rollercoaster of hormonal changes that affects every woman differently. Some may enjoy clear, glowing skin with no major issues, while others may have to contend with acne breakouts, hyperpigmentation and stretch marks.

Of course the lack of sleep and stress of being a new mom, on top of the hormonal changes, can certainly add to skin issues, but the good news is that by following a few simple tips you can get your skin back to normal again so you can focus on what’s really important; being a mom!

Keep reading for a few ways you can take care of your skin, all while juggling the joys of motherhood!

Use An Oil Based Cleanser Twice A Day

Keeping the skin clear and the pores free from dirt and grime is essential to prevent those frustrating acne breakouts.

Don’t rely on those conventional cleansers targeted towards acne though! These cleansers usually contain harsh, drying ingredients that only provide temporary results and strip the skin of beneficial oils. When you skin’s natural moisture balance is disrupted, your skin’s microbiome is put at risk, which then means your skin is at a higher risk of not only breaking out even more, it’s at risk of accelerated aging too!

Stick to an organic, oil-based cleanser that will provide an effective, yet gentle cleanse while maintaining your skin’s delicate moisture balance.

Don’t Forget To Tone

Toner is one of those products that is very underrated in our opinion.

Of course, we aren’t referring to non-organic, conventional toners that can strip the skin, but rather organic toners infused with hydrating ingredients and powerful antioxidants to refresh, hydrate and restore the skin.

Look for nourishing ingredients like rose to not only keep your skin perfectly dewy, but to provide your senses with an aromatherapy boost too!

Protect Your Skin With Moisturizer

This is the last step in your daily 3-step routine and it’s one we don’t recommend skipping!

A good moisturizer helps to prevent moisture loss through the pores by providing a protective barrier on the skin. If you’re using an antioxidant infused moisturizer then this protective barrier will also work to neutralize any free radicals your skin may come into contact with.

Don’t assume that because you’re breaking out, you need to skip this step either! When you skim over this step, your skin may try to overcompensate by producing too much sebum to make up for the lack of oil. So by skipping the moisturizer, you actually put your skin at risk for more breakouts.

Look for ingredients like Vitamin C to help reduce inflammation, boost collagen, lighten pigmentation and fight free radicals all day long!

Rely On These Ingredients To Fade Stretch Marks

Don’t get too down on yourself if you’ve picked up a few stretch marks along your pregnancy journey.

These are your tiger stripes and you deserve to show them off with pride!

We aren’t going to judge you either if you want to lighten their appearance so be sure to look for organic body butters rich in cocoa butter, shea butter, luxurious oils like coconut and sweet almond, as well as Vitamin E for a hefty antioxidant boost.

Not only will these potent ingredients fade your stretch marks, they will prevent any new ones from occurring, not to mention leave your skin feeling silky soft!

Wear SPF Every Time You Head Outdoors

This is the time when your skin may be hypersensitive, as your hormones try to balance themselves out.

Natural SPF needs to become your best friend, because it will help to prevent flare ups and irritation from UV rays so be sure to slather on an SPF of at least 30 or higher to keep your skin protected every time you find yourself outdoors.

Another way to protect your skin from any irritation is to use natural and organic products only, because organic products are formulated with ingredients derived from nature that are highly effective, yet often gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin!

We wanted to show you that it’s easier than you think to take care of your skin with a newborn. It won’t take more than just a few minutes a day to cleanse, tone and moisturize your body from head to toe! Also make sure to drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins and keep your skin cells hydrated from the inside out.

Getting enough sleep is also imperative, but this may seem like a joke when you have a newborn! Just try and rest when you can and don’t ever be afraid to ask for help. Make the most of this very special time!
