How To Keep Your Kitchen Clean

You don’t always have to struggle to keep your kitchen clean.  While cleaning counters, range hoods, disposals, counters, and utensils isn’t a fun experience, you needn’t work too hard on them either. Foodal has a good resource of hygienic cutting boards. Here are a few tips on how to keep your kitchen clean.

1. Use Tea to Prevent Stains and Splatters on Your Stove

Unknown to many, the tannins found in tea are potent enough to remove, as well as prevent food and grease from sticking to the surface of the stove.  Brew the tea for several minutes, leave it to cool, then use the strong mixture to wipe the surface. This will prevent anything from sticking to it. T

2. Use A Home-made Orange Cleaner to Clean Surfaces

You don’t have to depend on industrial cleaners all the time. A DIY all-purpose orange cleaner will come in handy in keeping all your kitchen surfaces, greasy stoves, and sinks clean. You’ll, however, require orange peels, white vinegar, a glass jar, and a spray bottle for this to work. Soak the orange peels in a glass jar with vinegar, and leave it in a cabinet for several weeks. Once the two weeks are over, transfer the contents in a spray bottle and add 2 parts of water. Shake the mixture well to combine, and the cleaner is ready to use. You can use the all-purpose orange cleaner to clean everything in the kitchen. The sweet scent of oranges will linger on for longer leaving your kitchen smelling fresh.

3. Re-Use Baking Soda

Many of us use baking soda to help get rid of foul smells in the kitchen. We also toss the baking soda away once 30 days are over. The ‘used’ baking soda can, however, be used to prevent garbage in the garbage bin from rotting away. All you need to do is dump it in the container with running water.

4. Clean Spills in The Oven as Soon as They Happen

Spills in the oven should be cleaned immediately and never left to dry. Such spills can quickly turn to a stain hence shouldn’t be left unattended. Sprinkle a little salt on any mess at the bottom of the oven. The salt helps turn the contents into ash, which can be wiped off easily with a wet kitchen towel or cloth.

5. Cover the Top of The Fridge with A Plastic Wrap

It’s easy for dirt, food particles, grime, and steam to settle on the top part of the fridge. These harden over time, making it quite a task to clean. Nonetheless, placing a plastic wrap on the refrigerator however prevents this from happening. You however have to remove, discard, and replace the cover once in a while to get rid of the dirt.

6. Use A Little Vodka to Clean Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is the best thing that happened to your kitchens. While great to look at, stainless steel can quickly lose its shine if not properly taken care of. Use a few drops of vodka in a sponge or paper towel to wipe clean all the stainless-steel surfaces. This should help restore its sparkle once again.

7. Buff Your Kitchen Sink

Lots of dirty stuff go through the kitchen skin. For this reason, you need to accord it some extra care immediately after finishing cleaning the utensils.  Use some oil-based wood cleaner, baby oil, or olive oil to wipe clean the sink. Be sure to use a dry rag or paper towel to buff up the surface thoroughly. Doing this creates an invisible oil film over it that prevents food stains and water from holding onto the surface of the sink, hence a cleaner, shinier sink.

8. Wipe off Cooked-On Grime

As hard as it may sound, you don’t necessarily have to use harsh commercial cleaners to remove cooked-on grime. You’ll, however, need a hairdryer to get the job done. Blast hot air onto the grime or stained area for a few minutes until hot to the touch, then wipe the grime off with a damp soapy cloth.

9. Give Your Kitchen A Lemony Freshness

A real lemon will work wonders in giving your kitchen the freshness it needs. Look for fresh lemon, poke several holes in it, then place it on a rack in the oven. Heat the oven at 300°F for 5 minutes with the door slightly open. The lemon will release fresh fragrances into the air filling the room. You could also boil a slice of fresh lemon in water over a stovetop for at least ten minutes for the same results.  The lemon fragrance should help remove odors from burned toast and fish.

10. Ensure All Appliances Are Clean

The dishwasher, microwave, and other countertop appliances should be kept clean at all times. Be sure to wipe them clean immediately after use. This will leave your kitchen looking clean and fresh all the time.
