5 Ways To Keep Your Kids Entertained In The Run-Up To Christmas
It may be the most wonderful time of the year, but as Christmas approaches, you might find that your children become over-excited, bored, or a bit of a handful. It’s perfectly understandable, of course, because they can't wait for Santa to arrive, but it can take its toll on everyone after a while. So, it’s a good idea to prepare a list of things to do with them for times when it all gets a bit much.
Here are 5 ways to keep your kids entertained in the run-up to Christmas.
Christmas lights switch-on
Many cities and towns organize a Christmas lights event where all the residents can congregate to see the lights switched on. There may also be entertainment such as singers, dancers, or rides for the kids to play on. Find out if anything is being arranged in your area and mark it on your calendar. It's a great way to spend time as a family and keep the kids happy for a few hours.
Make Christmas ornaments
Making ornaments is another lovely way to spend quality time as a family and do something enjoyable too. Salt dough handprint ornaments are fun to make and make great gifts or, if science is more your thing, why not do a water crystal experiment and make a Borax snowflake! Not only is it exciting for the kids but it’s educational too!
Watch a Christmas Movie
There are few things as lovely as the whole family congregating on the sofa and watching a Christmas movie together. Put the fire on, grab some popcorn or a hot chocolate, and settle down for a few hours of entertainment. Watching a movie is such an easy way for you all to take some time out, de-stress, and increase your energy levels.
If the children end up bickering over which movie to watch, have them write their favorite on a piece of paper, pop them in a container, then choose one at random. Every time you want to watch a movie, you can select one from the jar. It stops arguments and means that everyone gets to watch their choice of film at some point.
Write a letter to Santa
We all know how important it is that Santa is aware of what we want for Christmas so, if your kids haven't yet written a letter, now is a perfect time. Kids spend hours dreaming of what they would like for Christmas, so they will probably spend ages writing their letters. When the letters are ready, take them to the mailbox and send them off to Santa.
Time in the snow
Snow provides instant entertainment for kids, so make sure you have suitable clothing to hand for it arriving. Making a snowman can take hours, so you needn't worry about them getting bored. Snowballs fights are always good fun and, if you have young children, you can teach them how to make snow angels. A day in the snow is a brilliant way to create memories for your children.
