Dealing with ADHD amid the COVID-19 Crisis

The entire world has come down to its knees due to COVID-19. This pandemic is not just attacking immunity but is also adversely affecting mental health. There is a significant increase in ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and stress levels among children, old-age people, and other weak-hearted people.

Managing the children in such a stressful environment is a tough task, but with expert ADHD coaching, you can control their anxiety levels.

The NSCH (National Survey of Children’s Health) conducts a survey every four years. The last survey in 2016 stated that 6.1 million children have ADHD on an average. They suspect a sharp increase in the year 2020 post-COVID 19 crisis.

The figures in COVID-19 cases are fluctuating, and so is stress-level among the children. Let's learn about how to deal with ADHD in such highly stressful situations.

Seek Professional Expert’s Help

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) estimates that children in the age group of 2-5 years also suffer from severe ADHD issues. The survey conducted by NSCH stated, around 388,000 children who are below six years of age suffer from anxiety and stress-related diseases.

Controlling stress requires persistent efforts. As a parent, you must understand that every child is different, and so are their needs. In stressful times like pandemic, you must look for professional advice to deal with children who have ADHD. It takes time to heal, but there is success in mitigating the adverse effects of anxiety and depression.

Communicate with Your Child

Four million children in the age group of 6-11 years and 3 million children in the age group of 12-17 years are diagnosed with ADHD symptoms. There are severe problems associated with ADHD that lead to other mental ailments like behavior and conduct problems, emotional disturbances, and intolerance to control from parents.

With the help of expert ADHD coaching, you can help your child to deal with stressful situations, but for that, you need to communicate with him first. Your child needs to understand why they are not allowed to go in the open, what is pandemic, why to follow social distancing, and why safety comes first.

Once you discuss these issues with your child, you can curb the anxiety levels in your child. Mental healing with therapies at home is much more useful than OTC medications.

Monitor the Use of Media

Children tend to surf the internet and watch movies on tablets that cease their mental growth. You must supervise and keep a tap on which sites and videos your child is watching. Often violent games and TV shows make your child behave violently. Their minds are weak during their growing age, and hence they accept the fictional programs as reality.

Nurturing a child and polishing their mindsets is crucial during their growth years. ADHD can heal with time, but there has to be a strict vigilance on your child. This does not mean you must stop your child now and then from watching TV, instead join your child and enjoy the time with him. So, even your child can enjoy your company and stay away from stressful triggers.
