4 Lessons Our Children Teach Us about Happiness

My son’s smiles, giggles and runs always leave me in awe whenever I look at him. I am always amazed at the way he is always happy. Sometimes he gets hurt, but that never stops my dear son from bouncing back. I’m always envious of him. I always wish I could be like him, even for a day.

Adult life has a lot of frustrations. You have bills to pay, a job to attend to and other general stresses. If we aren’t careful, these things can make our lives dull. Luckily for us adults, we can learn a lot from our kids. Maybe our sons and daughters can teach us how to live a full life of happiness.

Remind Yourself How Awesome You Are

Kids are always positive and optimistic. They always view themselves positively and always consider themselves as the best. If kids can view themselves positively, so can we as adults. However, that is not usually the case for us adults since we easily let our negative thoughts get in our way when it comes to achieving our dreams.

Being positive all the time is never that easy. Whenever a person is going through tough times, they might find it hard to keep their minds positive. However, did you know that by just speaking positivity during such times, you can actually bring greater happiness into your life?

For example, when a kid wins a game they were playing with other kids, he or she may run around yelling “I’m the best!” Although as an adult you don’t have to do this, by just thinking you are the best you, can really make a difference in your life.

Be Outgoing

Getting fresh air outside or changing your scenery can really help in motivating you and amplify up your energy levels. Everyone has an inner child that is just yearning for some outdoor fun. During seasons such as fall, you will get a lot of ways you can enjoy yourself outdoors.

You can play soccer with friends, join a fitness class or go hiking with friends. Every time I see my son running outside and laughing, I always feel special. We can, therefore, borrow a lot from our kids and start living active lives full of fun.

Go to Bed Whenever You Feel Tired

As adults, we are always guilty of staying up late, even when our bodies are telling us that it is time to retire. This is mainly because we usually have a lot of unfinished business by the time its bed time. Whenever you cut your sleep time to do other stuff other than sleeping, you will end up feeling tired throughout the next day.

You will thus be unable to do the things you want on the next day since you will be totally exhausted. Kids on the other hand, will let you know when they are tired. Whenever my son gets tired, he goes to sleep immediately. To him, everything else can wait till the next day. You can improve your focus and energy levels by creating a routine of going to bed early and getting up in time.

Ask for Something Whenever You Feel You Need It

As a mother, I tend to wait until I completely run out of something before I can replace it. I went for two years without buying myself any pair of jeans until recently. Just imagine, TWO GOOD YEARS! I ended up buying myself the two pairs out of frustration of not having anything nice to wear. When we don’t ask for things we want, we might end up getting more stressed.

If your friend or spouse is doing something that bothers you and you don’t talk to them about it, you will be stressed. To avoid this, you should always communicate something whenever you feel like it’s affecting you. Your happiness is more important than anything else.
